DocuWare Server setup

  • The current user must have local administrator rights on the computer
  • .NET Framework version 4.8
  • .NET version 10

DocuWare Client setup

  • For a new installation of Desktop Apps, the current user must have local administrator rights on the computer. For an update of already installed Desktop Apps this is not required.
  • Generally .NET Framework 4.8
  • .NET 10, when installing the Windows Explorer Client, User Synchronization or Local Data Connector.

Operating systems for DocuWare Server and Clients

  • Windows Server 2025 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2022 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2019 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2016 (x64)
  • Windows 11 (x64)*
  • Windows 10 (x86 + x64)*, version *H2

* NOT recommended because of strong IIS request limits (10 concurrent requests maximum). User experience might be severely degraded for more than three users. In addition, the corresponding "Home" editions are not supported as operating systems for server machines.
Further restrictions:
Amazon Web Services (AWS) are not supported for running DocuWare, neither for servers nor for clients.
 Terminal servers and domain controllers are not supported for DocuWare Server installations.

When official Microsoft support for a version of the operating system expires, DocuWare also discontinues support for that version at the same time. The end of support will not be communicated separately. Server and Client Setup will display warnings for unsupported operating systems in this case. The setup can still be executed.

Browsers for Web-based applications

Databases

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2025 [Collation Latin1_General_CI_AS]
  • MySQL 8 [Legacy basic authentication; Collation utf8mb3_unicode_ci], version 8.4.5 (installed by DocuWare)

SMTP Server

  • DocuWare needs an external SMTP server to send notification emails, e.g. when users want to reset their password.

Special requirements

DocuWare Desktop

  • If DocuWare Desktop is used on a computer with Windows Server, "Desktop Experience" must be installed.
  • CPU: 4 cores minimum
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
  • Hard disk: Required disk space depending on module selection, calculated and displayed during client setup.

Connect to Outlook

  • Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 und 2021, each in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and Microsoft Office 365
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2016, 2019 and Microsoft Office 365

Connect to Mail

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2016, 2019 and Microsoft Office 365

DocuWare for Outlook Web App

  • Microsoft Office 365

Electronic signatures

  • For the integration of electronic signatures of the type 'biometric' the signature service provider ValidatedID supports these devices.

Encryption

Since DocuWare version 7.6 the use of SSL/TLS for the encryption of HTTP traffic is mandatory.

Hardware Requirements

These requirements are valid for DocuWare Services only! Any additional external application on the same machine require additional resources.

DocuWare Services

  • CPU 4 cores minimum, 8 cores recommended
  • RAM 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • Hard disk
    • minimum 64 GB hard disk space
    • SSD recommended
    • documents should be stored on a separate internal hard drive or external storage system

Database

  • DocuWare Internal Database: System requirements defined by vendor for MySQL 8 must be followed
  • MySQL, SQL Server: System requirements of database vendor must be followed
  • DocuWare recommends the use of Microsoft SQL-Server as database system for Systems with more than 1 Million documents (without fulltext index) or with more the 200.000 document pages (with fulltext index).
  • In larger installations we recommend to use a dedicated machine for the database.

Fulltext

  • DocuWare Fulltext Service (required for searching in the fulltext of the documents):
    • minimum 2 cores, recommended 4 cores
    • RAM: minimum 2 GB, recommended 4 GB
  • In larger installations we recommend to use a dedicated machine for the fulltext.
